TRANSMISSIONS

We're not called Transmission Authority for nothing. If you need some work done on your vehicles transmission, then you've come to the right place.

Most of the time if your transmission isn't working properly you'll know. But there are some less obvious signs especially with todays modern transmissions. Here are a few tips on what to check for if you think your transmission needs service.

The transmission transmits power from the engine to the axles in your car. Since engines have a very high rotational speed it is neccesary to slow that speed down to make for a more comfortable ride. Without the transmission; slowing, stoppping and starting would be a rough experience. Keeping your transmission in working order is imperative to the safe and effective operation of your vehicle.

CHECK YOUR FLUID.

The fluid in your transmission can tell you a lot about the condition of the transmission. Fluid helps to keep moving parts lubricated and cool. Checking the color and smell of the fluid is a good indicator. Fluid should be bright red and clear and have a sweet smell. If the fluid is dark and smells burnt then it is time to bring it in for a look.

MIND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT

In todays transmissions sensors pick up iregularities before you even feel them. That light in your dash represents more than just the condition of your engine so be sure to bring in you vehicle to find out why the light is on. We can scan your vehicle to determine what codes are present.

POOR SHIFTING

Your transmission when running properly should shift smooth. Jarring shifts and delayed transitions into gears are signs that its time for a service. With a manual transmission, grinding gears or difficulting selecting gears means its time to for us to take a look. Listen for any whinning or clunking noises coming from underneath the car. The transmission should run silent when running properly.

CHECK FOR LEAKS

If your car leaves behind any fluids after being parked for some time your transmission could be at risk. A few drops is an early sign that your transmission will need service soon. Reading these early warnings from your transmission and acting on them will keep your vehicle on the road and running properly.
